Pt Narayanrao Bodas (1933 to 2017) was an Indian classical singer and teacher. Narayanrao Bodas was born to an Indian family living in what is now Karachi, Pakistan, on January 31st 1933. Part of a musical family based in the Indian heritage, his initial training was given by his father [and also guru] Pandit Laxmanrao Bodas, with later tuition by Prahladpant Ganu. Both his father and his uncle, Pandit Shankarrao Bodas, were disciples of Pandit Vishnu Digambar Paluskar and deeply influenced by his mantras. After dedicating his life to classical vocal music, he devoted a considerable part of his career to the 'Marathi natyasangeet', acting in musicals on stage. Bodasji participated in many of Bhatwadekar's plays in 'Marathi' and 'Sanskrit', but retired from the stage in 1993 at the age of 60, after giving a final performance of | |
"Sangeet Saubhadra" in Goa. He started teaching music instead, joining Mumbai University and teaching there for 12 years. After retiring from their faculty in 2006, he moved to the Gandharva Mahavidyalaya educational establishment in New Delhi to teach more students free of charge. A long-time leading vocalist of Marathi Stage Drama, he acted in many plays during his career, including "Soubhagyarama", "Sangeet Mruchchakatik", "Sangeet Manapman", "Bawankhani", "To ekRajhans" and "Krushnarjunyuddha". Among the awards and recognitions he earned during his lifetime was the "Balgandharv", given by the Maharashtra State Government. |
